The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu has taken five students completing the Young Leaders Award at Manor CE Academy to see Bear Grylls’ Mud, Sweat and Tears tour at Sheffield City Hall. Bear Grylls, the star of Born Survivor and Man vs Wild, one of the most watched TV shows on the planet, shared epic stories of adventure and survival including recollections from his journey to the summit of Mount Everest. The Archbishop said:
“I know that these Young Leaders will have been inspired by Bear Grylls’ stories of adventure. Growing Young Leaders for today is absolutely essential. My Youth Trust is doing this through the Young Leaders Award. It’s growing fast with thousands of students in schools across the north of England choosing to take the Award and transforming communities where they live”
Rob Judson, one of the students taking the Award at Manor CE Academy said:
“This was such an amazing opportunity! We’re learning so much about leadership throughout the Young Leaders Award and to be offered the chance to hear from a modern day leader such as Bear and learn from his experience and stories was a real treat!”
The Young Leaders Award combines classroom learning, with practical projects focused on community action. It is an exciting course for secondary school students developed by the Archbishop of York Youth Trust. Available for schools and churches this resource will equip young people to be a force for good in their local community.
