The newly elected Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, answered young people’s questions during this week’s #FaithatHome collective worship. Students from Bishop Young Academy, Archbishop Holgate’s School and Manor CE Academy asked questions on the themes of ‘compassion’ and ‘hope’.
‘My hope is in what God has already done in Jesus Christ, which give me hope for today and hope for tomorrow.’
Alex from Bishop young asked Archbishop Stephen ‘given all the turmoil in the world, what are you hoping for right now?’ Archbishop Stephen answered that he hopes we won't go ‘back to normal’. Referencing the Coronavirus pandemic, he said:
“I don’t want to hear those words ‘let’s go back to normal’. Because the truth is what we thought was normal was killing the planet. And although I cry out for all the terrible suffering we see in our world today, this does give us an opportunity to think much more carefully and intentionally about what sort of world we want to build and what sort of world we want to inhabit. And actually, the whole world has had a bit of a breather while our cars have been on the drive and the planes have been on the runway. To go back to normal, I think, would be a terrible disaster.”
The Youth Trust team are very much looking forward to work with Archbishop Stephen in the coming years.
