Over the past 25 years Dundee United Supporters Amateur Football Club (DUSAFC) have come to York at the end of their season to play an annual friendly fixture against a rival team from Dewsbury, Mill Forest Way FC. This year, and as a way of giving something back to York for hosting the event, the two teams held a number of fundraising activities in aid of the Youth Trust's work.
The referee turned up dressed as Dick Turpin, having walked through York centre encouraging Youth Trust support, before officiating the match which took place at York Sports Village. It was a very well-played game and ended in victory for DUSAFC by 8 goals to 2. Following on from the charity match the teams joined together in 'The Priory' on Micklegate (York) and raised further funds through a raffle, auction and quizzes. £380 was raised on the day and Britvic, event sponsors, kindly agreed to add to this amount up to a maximum of £250, giving a total of around £630.
Many thanks to all at DUSAFC and Mill Forest Way FC for raising funds and awareness for the Youth Trust, especially event organisers Alan Lochhead and Shaun Stringer.
