Last week Archbishop Holgate’s School sent off another van load of donations to York FoodBank. They are proud to be the only York school to have a permanent, all year round, Foodbank collection point. Included in their boxes of donations were lots of baked beans, other tinned goods, loads of pasta, plenty of cereal and many other things too. They were also able to send over 30 chocolate advent calendars to bring a bit of seasonal cheer to families across York.
Laura Hagues, the Director of York Foodbank, said:
“We are delighted to be working with Archbishop Holgate's school. The school firmly holds the values of compassion and giving, and they have a community focussed outlook. York Foodbank is a great fit with this ethos. We have had some great collections from the families and staff of Archbishop Holgate’s, and as we rely on the public for all of our food, their contributions are always greatly received.”
Richard Nihill, Chaplain at Archbishop Holgate’s, said:
“A big thank you to everyone who donated a wide range of items. As we look forward to Christmas we are now encouraging everyone in our school community to re-fill our four empty collection bins in reception. Our current challenge over the next few weeks is to see if each tutor group can collectively bring in 24 items during the run up to the Christmas holidays. A form of reverse Advent – focussing on giving rather than getting.”
