Bishop of Jarrow Congratulates Kingsmeadow Young Leaders
60 Young Leaders at Kingsmeadow Community School, Gateshead will receive their Awards and Certificates from their local Bishop of Jarrow, Mark Bryant at their school at 6.30pm tonight.
Bishop Mark said:
“I am very much looking forward to presenting these awards. These young people have discovered how comparatively easy it has been for them to make a real difference to their community and to enjoy making that difference. Today more than ever we need people who will commit to making a difference to their communities and it is wonderful to hear how these Kingsmeadow students are doing just that.”
The students attending Kingsmeadow are mainly drawn from the inner urban areas of Gateshead, Dunston and Lobley Hill. This year, 60 students have successfully completed the Young Leaders Award run by the Archbishop of York Youth Trust. The students have worked hard on their community action projects; they have fundraised for a local hospice and planted poppies to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.
Doug Pettitt, the Head Teacher Kingsmeadow said:
“I have witnessed stunning work from boys and girls researching amazing individuals such as Elizabeth Fry and William Wilberforce. The Young Leaders Award has helped us to develop a generation of young people committed to making their communities fairer and better places to live.”
Hannah Hood, a Kingsmeadow Young Leader said:
“I have really enjoyed the Young Leaders Award and would recommend it to anyone. I can’t believe we raised so much money for our chosen charity! I’m so proud of all of us.”
Youth Trust Director, Dan Finn said
“We are delighted that Bishop Mark is meeting with Kingsmeadow Young Leaders at their Awards evening to hear about what they have been doing. The school mission statement reads inspiring minds, opening hearts, transforming lives. I believe these Young Leaders, through their community work, have reflected this mission. These Young leaders are joining thousands of other students across the north of England who have completed the Awards.”
The Trust have developed free online resources, exploring how the gifts of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love can be shared with others in practical ways.
Young people aged 15-16 are exploring science and faith on Thursday 15th November at OMG Science!: Unlocking a world of wonder.
The Archbishop of York Youth Trust today announced two new appointments made for the positions of Chief Operations Officer and Conference Administrator for the Young Leaders Award (YLA).
